Mommy and Me

Mommy and Me

This blog is dedicated to all Moms!

Do you realize how precious you are?

Our boutique co-owners, Mel and Marissa, never cease to amaze me! They are both mothers of young daughters and daily I feel their pride, dedication and desire to have the most positive impact on their children’s lives.

Can you imagine the home/work balancing act these two Moms must be experiencing as our new co-owners of 6th and Broadway? From my perspective, they are achieving their business goals and dreams with determination, creativity and grace and are still able to keep their daughters front and center.

To celebrate Mel and Marissa this Mother’s Day, I put my efforts into capturing the beauty and fun of their mother daughter relationships.

What I have discovered is that with sincere grounded love… anything is possible!

A mother’s role is so complex and no doubt complicated to define.

With this thought in mind, I followed through with a fun, informal and inquisitive approach to get the real perspective on motherhood. I had the pleasure of getting insight from Elle (12), Scarlett (10), Violet (8), Addy (14) and Teagan (12).

I hope you find their reflections as heartwarming as I do!

Be sure to embrace the innocence and appreciate the depth of several of their responses.

Let’s start with my research on Mel…

I asked Violet… What is your Mom’s job at home?

According to Violet, “My Mom cleans my room, does dishes and washes the clothes, gives nighttime vitamins and power washes the deck.”

When asked what she loves about her Mom, Violet said: “I love her Momma snuggles.”

Violet identified Mel’s super power to be reading books.

Then I asked Scarlett… What is the job description of a mom and she shared the following thoughts with me… A mom is someone who takes care of you and also keeps your home clean and looking nice. Scarlett loves how she can always talk to her Mom about anything. “My Mom makes me feel that whatever happened isn’t so bad and not to worry. She always makes me feel better!”

A jointly mentioned super power of Mel’s, according to Violet and Scarlett, is cooking quiches. In addition, Scarlett mentioned Mel having the super power to always be there when we need her!

According to Elle, her Mom’s job is “to nurture us to become great individuals who stand up for what we believe. My Mom inspires us to become good role models.”

When I asked Elle what she loves most about her Mom, she replied:

“My Mom doesn’t exactly say no, but instead makes sure I am on the right path and leads me to make my own good choices and decisions.”

Elle feels that her Mom’s super power is being super empathetic and that she helps her even when Elle herself may not realize she needs help.

Next is my research on Marissa…

When asking Teagan and Addy about the job description of a mom, both emphasized what they feel is at the heart of being a mom: “To take care of your children, being kind and being responsible.” Addy mentioned taking “ownership” as a basic responsibility.

I asked Teagan what she loves most about her Mom and her sweet and simple but comprehensive reply was “everything!” Addy is most appreciative of how she can always count on her Mom to feed her. One yummy example of a favorite Marissa delicacy is her sausage and potato casserole. Addy also loves her Mom for keeping her supplied with Manga books.

Lastly, I inquired about Marissa’s superpower and as Addy, Teagan and I chatted we agreed that their Mom has the ability to “go with the flow” and that she shines at being “adaptable”. Teagan also added that her Mom has another superpower and that is how she deals with being tired. Both daughters are well aware that their Mom has a lot of responsibilities, including her coursework at Alexandria Technical and Community College, and her ability to always push through is not going unrecognized.

What amazing role models Mel and Marissa are for their precious daughters, who will likely some day be mothers as well. We nurture as best we can and encourage our motherly love to be felt forever.

Happy Mother’s Day, M & M!!!

With love,

Deb and the rest of the 6th & B Team

A special thanks to Violet, Scarlett, Elle, Teagan and Addy for sharing their thoughts!
